Priyanka Chopra Jonas, born July 18, 1982, in Jamshedpur, India, has lived a life that feels like the plot of a movie — small-town girl turned international superstar. Her parents, Dr. Ashok Chopra and Dr. Madhu Chopra, were both army doctors, which meant frequent relocations during her childhood. These moves exposed her to different cultures and taught her adaptability early in life.
At 13, Priyanka moved to the United States to live with relatives, where she attended schools in Massachusetts, Iowa, and New York. She faced bullying for her Indian heritage, an experience she has spoken about candidly. Eventually, she returned to India for her final years of high school — and that’s when fate intervened.
In 2000, at just 17, Priyanka entered the Femina Miss India pageant and won. Later that year, she competed at Miss World in London, taking home the crown and becoming a national sensation overnight. Offers from Bollywood poured in, and she made her acting debut in The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003).
The early 2000s saw her steadily climb the ranks, with memorable performances in Andaaz, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, and Aitraaz — the last earning her widespread critical acclaim for playing a complex antagonist. By 2008, her role in Fashion won her the National Film Award for Best Actress, marking her as one of Bollywood’s most talented stars.
Priyanka never shied away from challenging roles. From portraying a boxer in Mary Kom to a serial killer in 7 Khoon Maaf, she proved she could do more than glamorous parts. At the same time, she enjoyed commercial hits like Don, Krrish, and Bajirao Mastani.
Then came her boldest career move — Hollywood. In 2015, she became the first South Asian woman to headline a U.S. network drama with Quantico, playing FBI agent Alex Parrish. The show ran for three seasons, making her a familiar face in American households. She went on to star in Baywatch (2017) alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, The Matrix Resurrections (2021), and romantic comedies like Love Again.
Outside of acting, Priyanka is a singer, releasing singles like “In My City” and “Exotic.” She’s also a producer through her company, Purple Pebble Pictures, focusing on regional Indian cinema. Her memoir, Unfinished, released in 2021, offered a candid look at her struggles, triumphs, and personal philosophy.
In her personal life, Priyanka married American singer Nick Jonas in December 2018 in a lavish wedding that blended Hindu and Christian traditions. The couple welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie, via surrogacy in 2022.
Priyanka is also deeply committed to philanthropy. As a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, she campaigns for girls’ education, gender equality, and disaster relief. She has been included in Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People” list and Forbes’ “World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.”
Her story is one of ambition, reinvention, and breaking boundaries. Priyanka Chopra Jonas is not just a star — she’s proof that with talent, hard work, and courage, you can build a career that spans continents and cultures.
